WARNING
The current Government of Costa Rica has filed a new bill with the Legislative Assembly (PROJECT OF LAW/LAW TO REGULATE BETTING, CASINOS AND GAMBLING/FILE Nº 17.551) in an attempt to regulate all national activities regarding betting, casinos and gambling, including online gambling.
This new law seeks to create a National Gambling Regulation Commission which will be responsible of issuing, renewing, monitoring and suspending the required licenses to operate such activities, as well.
Based on the constitutional principle of no retro-activity on new laws, established in the Constitution of Costa Rica; it is clear that all those businesses, which acquire their license BEFORE the new law is enforced, will not be affected by the new disposition.
In other words; to all those who are interested in acquiring an online gambling license in Costa Rica and have not decided yet, we highly recommend to obtain their license as soon as possible. Currently there is no regulation for this license and it is still quite easy to get one.
